At the University of Cyprus, we wrapped up a successful campaign during Fall Semester 2018/19, and we are now ready and excited to start kicking off our new activities, for the Spring Semester 2018/19.
During the Fall Semester, amongst other activities, we updated our website and the dashboard, trained fourteen students living in halls as Student Switch Off ambassadors, and identified and trained four students living in the private rented sector as Student Switch Off+ ambassadors, therefore have in total eighteen student ambassadors for the campaign, which is fantastic! We also organized and performed an Energy Training Event, and completed four photo competitions, as well as our 1st Online Climate Quiz.
Advice is sent once a month to 6,650 students living in the private rented sector about ways that they can reduce their energy and save money. Additionally, we are very happy to be able to bring the Cyprus University of Technology (located in Limassol) on board with the project, as they have agreed to disseminate energy saving advice to their own students!
Since the beginning of the new semester (January 14 2019), our staff and enthusiastic ambassadors, have been reminding our residents of good practices in terms of saving energy, through emails, face-to-face visits, and fun social media posts. Winter is here, so this is a perfect opportunity to remind students to put extra layers on, instead of turning up the heat. In addition, we shared our advice regarding good practices when searching for energy efficient housing, addressing the students who look into moving to the private sector housing.
Now, we are planning our Spring Semester Photo and Tag Photo Competitions, energy training events, fun activities and more! Stay tuned!
