We are very excited to announce that our SAVES 2 project has won the prestigious ISCN (International Sustainable Campus Network) Student Leadership award. The award is given to outstanding student projects/campaigns contributing to the sustainable campus and encouraging other students to start their own initiatives to make a difference.
According to the ISCN jury, SAVES 2 was selected as an outstanding example of excellence in student inspired and led initiatives, and is a project that exemplifies the principles of the International Sustainable Campus Network.
As you know, the SAVES 2 project runs in 7 different countries (UK, Ireland, Lithuania, Cyprus, Greece, Romania and Bulgaria) and focuses on two main campaigns – Student Switch Off and Student Switch Off +. Student Switch Off is an interhall energy saving competition where students compete with their flatmates to save energy (and carbon) in their halls, and as a result get into good energy saving habits for when they move into the private rented sector. Student Switch Off+ focuses on students who are looking to move, or are already living in, the private rented sector highlighting the significant benefits of smart meters (in monitoring and minimising their energy usage in private rented accommodation), raising awareness around energy efficient appliances and Energy Performance Certificates, thus helping students reduce their exposure to fuel poverty.
