USI ‘Student Switch Off’ campaign goes on the road; using only sustainable means of travels of course!

We spent the last few weeks traveling all over Ireland spreading energy saving tips to the students and the student union members. One of our main goals was to gather fun and creative videos, boomranges and visuals to promote the campaign. We had enormous fun and  some highlights included; switching off a lightbulb by throwing a ball (yes, they got it in one shot!), putting as many jumpers on a SU officer as possible and getting lots of people shaking lightbulbs for the camera. We also got the chance to inform the colleges about the positive impact our partners the ‘Green Campus’ had already put in place for instance compostable cups, launching their own keep cup and swap shops.

We have been busy networking and teaming up with different organisations & societies and communication staff to ensure we spread the sustainable message as wide as we can. We secured sponsorship from Irish Rail, as well as, many local businesses. We launched two photos actions and gained some great photos of students carrying out energy saving activities. We even set up our own Snapchat account!

Colleges are slowing down but USI is not, we have taken to Facebook to provide tips and hints on how students can have an eco-friendly Christmas. Needless to say, the USI team are ready and waiting to continue the fun in the 2018 and we will be launching a ‘New Year’s Resolution’ & ‘Valentine day’ mini campaign to encourage energy saving during these periods.
